Kindergarten

The transition from Preschool or home to Kindergarten is an important one! The Martha’s Vineyard Public Schools provides many opportunities for your child, their families, to feel comfortable and excited about this transition.

The Kindergarten transition process begins with registration Island wide in January of each year. Each school then hosts a spring Orientation Night followed by visit days in June.

All student entering Kindergarten are required to participate in a screening process that includes a fun developmental screening, a hearing and vision screening with the school nurse and an English Language Learner (ELL) screening through the ELL department. These are typically scheduled at the Orientation Night.

Each elementary school then offers social opportunities such as meeting on the playground, visits with your teacher and potlucks to welcome students to their school.
